Case Study on Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery
Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson was an American singer-songwriter, entertainer, dancer, arranger, music producer, choreographer, actor, businessman, musician, and philanthropist. He is often referred to as the "King of Pop", or by his initials MJ. Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
Michael Jackson has gone through many plastic and cosmetic surgeries in his lifetime. He has even claimed to be addicted. He was born African-American, but bleached his skin white.  He was being mocked at by people of ages as they felt that he looked better before his plastic and cosmetic surgery!
Look at his timeline. If you compare Michael Jackson before and after plastic surgery, he honestly looked better before plastic surgery. Bleaching his skin and the repeated surgeries caused him many health difficulties and he is commonly viewed by people and themedia as a plastic surgery gone wrong! Plastic surgery was unsucessful on him because it didn’t seem to bring much good to his life, and affected his career and performance.

In this case, you can see the effect of non-stop alterations and the unsuccessful outcome of plastic surgery. Michael Jackson has done countless nose jobs, he had his first rhinoplasty(nose job) after breaking his nose during a complex dance routine in 1979. However, the surgery was not a complete success, and he complained of breathing difficulties that would affect his career.

  1. Since Michael Jackson already claimed having breathing difficulties after breaking his nose and having his first rhinoplasty, why did he still go ahead with undergoing surgeries on his nose? Wouldn't undergoing further surgeries cause his condition to worsen?

  2. Like i mentioned earlier from the information researched on plastic/cosmetic surgeries, undergoing surgeries on the nose can not only help Michael Jackson to achieve his goal in getting a sharper nose but also help him breathe better with reduced efforts.

  3. Since people agree that Michael Jackson looks better before his numerous plastic surgeries, why did he still go for further plastic surgeries when people do not like his present looks?

  4. Michael Jackson probably was only unhappy with the looks he was born with and only wanted to get rid of his natural features but did not really mind people's comments about his looks. What Michael Jackson might really mind was if he was satisfied with the results of the plastic surgery and not what the public think of him. However, since the public judged Michael Jackson's plastic surgery as a case gone wrong, why did so many people still went ahead with the surgery without hesitation?

  5. Although there are many people who dislike Michael Jackson's looks, there are still bound to be people who support plastic surgery as they find that it is their own choice to make any alteration to their own body and the results only affect themselves. Furthermore, there it is sort of a 'tradition' for Koreans to undergo plastic surgery and many cases have been seen successful. One of these few successful cases can be seen from the k-pop idols themselves. Many people might thus decide to undergo plastic surgery as they have seen successful cases like the k-pop idols and the famous Singaporean blogger, Xiaxue, who are well-received by people from all over the world by not only their voices but also their looks.

  7. Or maybe, to add further, Michael Jackson is just one of those few unsuccessful cases of plastic surgery. Compared to the many other successful results from celebrities like KPOP girl group,Girls' Generation,to older pop stars like Madonna, it does not really affect much on the views that youths have on plasic surgery. These successful cases are the "source of encouragement" to "encourage" these youths to try to achieve desirable looks through these surgery procedures. Therefore, maybe this is one of the factors why many people are still willing to opt for plastic surgery.

  8. As seen in this blog post, he went to bleach his skin. He is an African-American but his tan skin has become so fair that he doesn't look like one. Is he bleaching his skin because he dislikes his religion, culture or race?

  9. I think he does not DISLIKE or discriminate against his own religion, but he wanted to have the fair and pretty features of a Western, which includes their fair white skin. He started out by bleaching his skin a little to become slightly fairer, and it worked out to his liking, but as you can see from some photos, he started getting "greedier", wanting to achieve more desirable fair skin, and kept on bleaching his skin to become close to pale white.

  10. Why would he get "greedier" over getting cosmetic surgery?

  11. As you can see from the case study above, Michael Jackson has claimed before that he was addicted to such surgery procedures. Similar to bleaching his skin, after seeing that he could achieve the results he wanted, he wanted to look even better, and eventually gave in to the temptation of opting for more bleaching, which, however, turned out worse for him.
